EL PASO RECAP
El Paso is home to desert flora and fauna, damn good tacos and a whole bunch of sun. Summers are hot with highs reaching the mid to high 90s. But it’s a dry heat, they say; much better than your humid summers that feel like saunas, and not in the refreshing way. Look, heat is heat, and always awful, so desert dwellers learn quickly how to beat it. A dip in a swimming pool is a great start. Sebastian was excited to try out Grandma Yvonne's and Grandpa Lorenzo’s new concrete oasis. We enjoyed cool water, shade and a real backyard BBQ with burgers and dogs (and a bit of whiskey for Dad). The heat didn’t seem to bother too much since Sebastian took several trips to the park in Grandma Maria’s Radio Flyer wagon. I also introduced Jessie to the legendary Cattleman’s Steakhouse at Indian Cliff’s Ranch. This is a true COWBOY steak house with huge cuts of prime beef, tons of western décor and a free pot of beans with every meal. The Cattleman's website is a perfect example of bad 1990s web design, demonstrating that this restaurant has absolutely no time for marketing, and why should you when you’re too busy preparing perfect slabs of meat. The restaurant's motto, or mission statement or whatever, is carved into a rustic wooden sign hanging over the host stand: "Good Food! at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must. But always Good Food!" Improper punctuation aside, this is a motto I can get behind. In short, I’ll take a dry heat any day of the week as long as it includes pools, wagons and a two-pound T bone!
